Matt Durand

Construction Program Director

Matt Durand is an Assistant Professor and Program Director of Construction Management at Marian University, a program focused on building hands-on, industry-connections that prepares students for meaningful careers in the built environment.

Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and a diploma in Carpentry from Rochester Community and Technical College. He is a licensed Minnesota Residential Contractor and an OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainer, bringing both academic preparation and hands-on industry credentials to the classroom.

With more than 20 years in the construction industry, Matt has managed residential, municipal, and commercial projects, including public infrastructure and stormwater systems. He has also worked in affordable and workforce housing development, partnering with communities to create practical housing solutions.

Prior to joining Marian University, Matt served in senior leadership roles at Rochester Community and Technical College, including Interim Dean of Career and Technical Education and Foundation Director. He has taught construction management and related coursework at Minnesota State University, Mankato; Dunwoody College of Technology; and Rochester Community and Technical College. His teaching emphasizes experiential learning, industry alignment, safety, and professional practice.

Matt’s professional interests include trade education, workforce and affordable housing, modular construction, and stormwater management. He is actively engaged in community service and nonprofit leadership and believes strongly in education as a pathway to economic mobility and community vitality. Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time outdoors, music, yoga, Star Wars, and quality time with his young adult children.
