Master of Arts in Education in Special Education with License
The Master of Arts in Education (MAE) in Special Education at Marian University prepares you to support diverse learners and become a licensed K–12 special education teacher. If you’re passionate about helping every student succeed—especially those who learn differently—this program equips you with the skills, confidence, and credentials to turn that passion into meaningful impact.
At Marian, we believe great teachers change lives. That’s why we partner with you every step of the way, helping you build a career that shapes inclusive classrooms and supports students who need dedicated educators like you.
This program includes both Field Experience and Student Teaching.
Field experience hours provide hands-on classroom observation, allowing you to see the skills you’re learning put into practice. You’ll gain experience across multiple grade levels throughout your licensure program. These real-world experiences give you opportunities to apply course concepts, observe live teaching and assessment, and engage with instruction across core subjects including reading, language arts, social studies, science, and mathematics.
Student teaching is the culminating experience of your program, placing you in a classroom under the guidance of a supervising teacher. You’ll plan lessons, teach students, and apply everything you’ve learned while building confidence to lead your own classroom. During this time, you’ll take on increasing responsibility—leading small groups or entire classes and supporting students with a wide range of needs and abilities.
