The Marian University eSports Valorant team (1-0) defeated Wartburg with a 13-6, 13-1 sweep to open its season.
MAP 1 – BIND
- Marian began map one on defense and saw Wartburg take an early 2-0 lead on the Sabres.
- The Sabres bounced back in a big way winning the next 10 games; six by elimination, and four by defusing the spike.
- This gave the Sabres an advantage at the swap and Marian won the opening game on attack.
- The Knights won back-to-back games to only trail 11-4, but the Sabres won round 16 by elimination to end the skid.
- Wartburg responded with two straight wins again, but Marian sealed the map with a round 19 win by elimination.
MAP 2 – BREEZE
- Beginning on attack, the Sabres dominated Wartburg to start map two defeating the Knights in the first 10 rounds, all by elimination.
- The Knights defused the spike in round 11, which proved to be the only Wartburg win on the map.
- The Sabres won by elimination to end its attacking phase, and won the first two defense rounds by defusing the spike to secure the victory.
- Marian drew first blood 26 times to only seven times for Wartburg.
- The Sabres were able to record 16 plants and six defuses for the match.
- Three Sabres finished with an ECON rating of 100 or better on the second map, and two Marian student-athletes had a combat score above 330.
