2019 Academic Symposium
Stayer 205
One of the most common, and most disruptive issues that athletes and other performers face is negative thinking. This thinking often forms a narrative in the performer’s mind that leads to decreased confidence, motivation, and persistence. This presentation will begin with a brief overview of relevant sport/performance psychology research regarding negative thinking, including recent work that has focused on mindfulness. Most of the session will be spent teaching simple mental skills to participants; mindfulness exercises will be included in this experiential portion of the workshop as well.
