Ways to Earn Transfer Credit

Marian University recognizes that you come to college with your own unique, college-level learning experiences. Whether you have credits from another accredited institution, several years of relevant work experience, or are a military veteran, we can help you turn that experience into success. That’s why we’ve developed a framework to give you credit for that learning. This framework offers multiple pathways to apply credit for prior learning toward your degree.

This results in lower costs for you in both time and money as you work to achieve your educational and career goals.

Transfer Credit Evaluation

Marian values both your academic achievements and real-world experience, which is why we maximize your transfer credits so you can complete your degree sooner, saving you time and money.

*Students who have earned credit for courses completed at colleges and universities that are not accredited by a regional accrediting organization recognized by CHEA may petition the Office of the Registrar to conduct a transfer evaluation of those credits according to Marian University policy.

Here’s how it works:

Transfer credit considerations include:

1. The educational quality of the (transferable) learning experience
2. The comparability of the nature, content, and level of the learning experience to that offered by Marian University
3. The appropriateness and applicability of the learning experience to the programs offered by Marian University, considering the student’s educational goals.

To be eligible for transfer, course credit must meet the following criteria:

1. The course must be completed with a passing grade, as defined by Marian University policy
2. The course must be offered through a regionally or nationally accredited institution of higher education *
3. Courses, workshops and training programs offered by business, government, military and other non-collegiate agencies must be accredited by the American Council on Education (ACE)
4. The course credit must be documented on an official transcript

Some programs have an expiration date on their allowable transfer credits

Undergraduate Credit Transfer

Marian University generally accepts course credits earned at regionally or nationally accredited institutions or candidates for accreditation if the undergraduate grades are C- or above. A maximum of 90 credits may be transferred into Marian University for undergraduate–each program has its own allowable transfer credit policy.

Courses are evaluated based on equivalent course offerings at Marian University and, if accepted, may be counted toward meeting graduation and degree requirements. College Deans, department chairs, program directors, or faculty shall determine those courses that meet major requirements.

Transferred courses are not included in the Marian University GPA calculation.

Transfer students who earn college level credits through AP courses and dual enrollment will complete their degree in less time and for a lower cost. Learn more about Marian University’s generous AP and dual enrollment college credit transfer policy.
