FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Marian University's Social Justice Committee, in collaboration with the Kappa Beta Gamma sorority group, will host a special presentation, by Janet McCord, Ph.D., entitled "You're Never Over: Eminem, Psychological Pain and the Suicidal Impulse" on Friday, September 7 at 7 p.m. in the Sodexo Dining Room in the Stayer Center, as well as their Darkness Walk for Suicide Prevention on Saturday, September 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
"This presentation gives insight into identifying the underlying causes of suicide," said Maggie Wentzell, co-director of the Social Justice Committee at Marian University. "Presenter McCord will share the insight and research of Edwin S. Schneidman, the 'grandfather' of 20th and 21st century suicidology throughout her presentation, and help attendees become more aware of the topic of suicide."

Presenting as part of the annual awareness walk, McCord is an associate professor of thanatology at Marian University and is the director of the Edwin S. Schneidman Program in Thanatology.
On Saturday, September 8, participants can also take part in the Out of the Darkness Walk from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., beginning at the Marian University Stayer Center The Out of the Darkness for Suicide Awareness is an American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) fundraiser, and is co-sponsored by Marian University and the Kappa Beta Gamma sorority.
