Marian University participates in President Obama’s Interfaith and Community Service Summer Gathering

July 18, 2012

FOND DU LAC, Wis. — President Dr. Steven DiSalvo represented Marian University July 16-17 at the 2012 Summer Gathering for President Barack Obama’s Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

While at the 2012 Summer Gathering, President DiSalvo was able to participate in a White House briefing and round table discussion with senior officials from the White House, Department of Education and Corporation for National and Community Service, where they discussed topics concerning interfaith cooperation and community service, as a way to build understanding between communities and contribute positively to society.

“Faith and diversity are two significant components of the Marian University community,” said DiSalvo. “Through this opportunity, Marian University will continue to inspire its students, faculty, staff and administration to work together to strengthen the Marian and Fond du Lac communities through projects that help unite people of diverse religious backgrounds.”

The Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge program began in March 2011, when President Barack Obama extended an invitation to college and university presidents across the country to take up an initiative to bring together diverse religious groups on campus for interfaith cooperation and community service programming.

The Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the U.S. Department of Education is part of the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, which works to form partnerships between government at all levels and nonprofit organizations, both secular and faith-based, to more effectively serve Americans in need.
